Well, with crossover office, he needs to pay 0 dollars to MS, he'll get the best speed (wine apps are running around %90-95 of the native speed, although the speed with GDI does suck, someone is now writing a new GDI engine from scratch) and he will need to pay $50. (The upcoming CrossOver office 2.0 will let you use a multiple "vm" approach so you can just install any number of apps, even conflicting ones - in 1 crossover).
