3. Please don't flame the requirement of your ID; As many others, they suffer from a severe duplication problem, and their mailing list (more than 100,000) contained many duplications. They tried anything they could, but finally got to the (right) conclusion that the only way to avoid million or more records, plus holding obsolete details of people who their updated details created new records, is by using the ID as a unique key.
I'm supposed to lectuer there too and I was present in some of the discussion preceding the event.
As such, I feel free to express my opinion: I dislike the way the organizers are treating people. I think they are acting in a non profesional manner, don't respect their customers and don't bother to learn their ways and all in all are doing every mistake in the marketing book. At least MY marketing book. Even worse, my expreince leads me to expect the worst from the organizers - e.g. everyone putting their details there is going to get spam. Hell, I got spam to an address given in a meeting to discuss organizing this thing.
Having said all that, it's going to be a big Linux event. It's organized by the biggest commercial bodies dealing with linux and events in israel and they all are very well meaning people and at least some of them really believe in what they are doing. Truly.
It's just so happen that this they are treating us in the same clueless way they treat all their customers and to be completely honest, most people in Israel have come to expect nothing else and no longer complain or even see the problem.

Now, if you don't like the situation you could all run and register to HaMakor[*] and then in the discussions for the NEXT event we could come up and say to these peole: "look here, we represent 500(?) Linux geeks and gekkettes. You want us to help/lecutre/show up? good! but we have some demands of our own...".
If we have 500 people they will listen. If we are 25 people they wont. N'uff said.
