dear linux-il :)

first of all, thanks to anyone who reads this and responds :)

i'm trying to get one computer that's running on win2k to move to linux,
using knoppix ... but first i have to get all the mail out of Outlook2000
and into some format like mbox that can be read by kmail.

i have compacted the active .pst file down to 128 megs (it was originally
over 2 gigs, so making it any smaller is really tough).

i tried the "import" function in both netscape 7.1 and mozilla 1.4 many
times, but both keep "hanging up" the import process about 15% - 25% of the
way through ...

i tried the import thing both online and offline, to see if connectivity
could affect the process... it did not.

i know that the .pst file may be "corrupt" (a concept i find remarkable in
and of itself)... is it possible to fix the corrupt file enough to get the
job done once?

i also know that the .pst file may contain some email viruses (though i have
pc-cillin installed and had avg checking the files too), but viruses aren't
much of a matter, really ... since they won't be run on the linux box. could
the viruses be preventing the process from being executed?

in good news, i did manage to "import" the contacts from the Outlook2000
file to the mbox file ... would it help to import the emails if i now
deleted the contacts out of Outlook2000?

someone suggested that i reinstall mozilla and try again ... but is that
really likely to help until i fox whatever's wrong with the .pst file?

is there some tool that exists to do this, other than the import feature in
the mozilla mail program? isn't there some way to get it done from within
linux, or do i have to labor with MSFT until this is done?

again, thanks and i hope i'll hear back from you,
