Hi Everyone,
My name is Eran Sandler and I'm new to the Linux-IL
(though not new to Linux).
Anyhow, in some strange way I got myself involved a
little bit with the Mono project (www.go-mono.com).
If some of you don't know this project, well it is
(or will eventually be) a full implementation of the .NET Common Language
Runtime (CLR) including all the libraries and a C# and VB.NET compilers suite.
In addition it also includes an implementation for ASP.NET and the start of a
module for apache to host ASP.NET projects natively.
The main issue here, that it can run on any OS
including Linux, Windows, HPUX, SunOS, MacOS, AIX and so on.
The company sponsering it is Ximian (www.ximian.com) which was founded by Miguel De
Icaza, one of the founder of the Gnome project.
Anyhow, I was thinking about giving lecture on the
subject, on .NET on Mono and how it can eventually give Linux yet another
advantage over Windows. Specifically in the "Develop in Windows, Deploy in
Linux" approach.
Perhaps by leveraging the awareness and knowledge
about .NET and Mono we can find some more contributers to the
project.
I don't want to start a flame war because the specs
for .NET came from the root of all evil Microsoft.
So... What do you think? Will some of you be
interested such a lecture? If so raise your hand...
Eran.
