Hi all,

The in-running new web site for linux.org.il is at
http://beta.linux.org.il. Flames and congrats should go to Ilya. Please
help us with constructive critisim.

The purpose of this site is not so much to set up a new content site,
but to be a portal to the existing places where Linux information can be
obtained.

Thanks for your help,

Shachar

Other sites: --------------

Any reason why the ATARIM has two entires- one in the fron page and one in
the atarim page? This means things need to be maintained twice. In
addition, Haifux is not listed in one of the lists.

Projects: ------------- Israeli projects: I believe Aviram has collected a list of Israeli Free software projects, which can be used for the site, if the people who manage those projects agree. On a more haifux note, there are several Israeli projects listed on

http://www.haifux.org/projects/index.html

including syscalltrack.

BTW, is it the intention to list there Israeli open source projects
(including public domain and things which cannot be changed) or just free
software (which can be read, compiled, changed, and re-distributed)? I
think the title is a bit mis-leading.

Forums: ----------------- In the forums lists, you have several forums which are described by their own name, which I belive was not the intention. (i.g. walla and ynet)

Events:
-------------------

I vote to drop the events for now.

Regarding events: Haifux is holding the fifth "Welcome to Linux" events,
starting 27/10/03, details on http://www.haifux.org/newcomers/. The main
page states that there are no events whatsoever on the next two months,
which is a rather misleading title. Maybe it would be bewtter to say that
no events were reported, or none are known.

Anyway, the link for reporting events is broken:
http://iglu.org.il/event_publish.html is not found on the server.

When going to the known events link, there are events which took place
months ago. I am offered again to publish an event, now on the right link:

http://beta.linux.org.il/publish_event.html .

This page states that there is a form there, where I can fill in the
details. There is no form there (checked the html source, it is not a
browser problem).

Contact: ------------- This part of the site ( http://beta.linux.org.il/contact.html) is gender specific, in contrast to other parts of the site. Note that we have already been approached with criticism as to Haifux's site (in Hebrew) being gender specific. (Fixed already).

Counseling:
---------------
I suggest linking to the Linux counselers page on iglu, as well as to any
counseler's page.

Orna.

The IGLU page is horribly, and possibly irricoverably, out of date. It's best to start over. like I wrote at an earlier date on Linux-IL - I am looking for someone to handle the administrative part, as I have a conflict of interests here. I think being listed on Hamakor site is a service worth money to a commercial service provider. If that view is accepted, however, it means I have to pay. I would rather not handle policy concerning "how much to charge", "how do we determine placement", and so on.

I actually think that the teaching section has the exact same problem, but there, at least, the competition is less fierce.
