Since no-one answered my original question, I'll ask another. Can anyone recommend a CHEAP (no more than 100 shekels) Webcam that works in LINUX? I've looked at all the sites supporting OV511, SPCA50x, CPiA and the manufacturers' sites - Aiptek, Trust, Mustek, Genius, Creative, etc. But the conflicting information I find makes it impossible to be sure which camera is supported - unless I can get a first-hand recommendation from someone who's tried one. As I wrote earlier, I found conflicting info about the specific model I asked about (Genius Videocam Express). In various places I found the answer to be "yes" or "no" or "maybe".
I looked in more than one computer store. Although I wasn't surprised to find that none of the cheap cameras mention LINUX on the box, I was surprised to find that none of them even mention any technical details about the sensor or chipset, so it's impossible to even make an **educated guess**. Let me again point out that I am looking for a cheap camera. No other factors (aside from LINUX compatability, of course) are of any real importance to me. If I wanted a high quality or mega-pixel camera, my questions would be compleely different. BTW - about a year ago, I bought a cheap camera based on the SPCA50x that was advertised as supporting LINUX, but it didn't. After several phone calls to complain to the importer, I noticed he removed the claim of LINUX compatability from his site. At least my kids got to enjoy that camera on their Win98 machine :-) On Sunday 28 December 2003 18:09, Shlomo Solomon wrote: > Has anyone had success using the Genius Videocam Express with LINUX?
