I ran into one online store that specializes in preinstalled Linux
laptops, most of their laptops are IBM, a few Sony, don't remember what
others.

It might give you some options to look through what they are offering.
look at http://www.emperorlinux.com/

IBMs seem to be good laptops with good customer support, no experience
with Linux on them.

I would avoid Sony though. Full Linux support on mine, but the official
Sony customer service is terrible at best, and there is no official
representative in Israel. ISFAR the importer isn't much better and very
expensive.
