What I do to search ALEPH in Hebrew is:
open a terminal with Hebrew fonts,
telnet lib.technion.ac.il
(user name ALEPH, no passwd)

Then I choose terminal kind 4 or 11, and change the language _twice_ to
Hebrew (using ? enter HEB enter).
(The first time looks as if I was using a Latin encoding)

I hope this helps going around the problem, at least.
Orna.
