I try to avoid the gnome deamons. I like the user interface of galeon,
but it's use of gconf is annoying (at least for me). I hardly find any
use for the gnome desktop for myself.

Aren't there simpler file managers for that?

As for me, I'm one of those who think X is great because it allows
easy switching between many terminals :-)
