I think you missing the whole point here.
The whole point as I see it as thus:
When it is allright to share the stuff you have created yourself AND it is
ok (ie turned the blind eye) to share the work of someone else to your
friends while you do not make profit from it.
It is NOT ok though to sell pirated copyies of someone else's stuff.
I, for example, own several sites and create a lot of texts that I publish
to be freely used for anyone. But I do not permit or endorse other people to
take my writings and claim as their own or worse, sell it. Yes, it is freely
available to use and even copy while my rights are preserved, but not steal.
Of course when speaking about companies, and large ones such as MPAA and
RIAA, they naturally don't want to lose profit from other people sharing
"their" creations. Thus they fight about it and YOU would do the same if you
were in their place.
I freely admit that I use edonkey and such to d/l stuff. I am not ashamed of
it, even as I do know that I am breaking the law.
BUT, I do it for a good reason.
Many times you see a good commercial and then go to movies and the movie
sucks big time.
Then you get dissappointed and feel you have waisted your money.
If you were to d/l the movie before and see it, you then would have the
privilege to judge if this is a good movie or not.
Then you could either go to see it in the cinema or buy the dvd.
That's what I do. I own the whole Matrix and LotR series on DVD becouse I
liked it after I d/l it.
I even think that MPAA and RIAA would gain much more profit and fame if they
would release all theirs "creations" in low quality online for free and then
sell the DVD quality as they do now. That way, people would know that they
are buying good stuff that they like and film directors / composers would
strive to create much better content.
That's my perfect win-win situation.
Alon.

You're missing a big point here Shlomi. You can share your
software/music/video/whatever, but what I create isn't yours, it's mine,
and it's up to me how it should be distributed and shared.
The copyrights to the work you create are yours. The copy of the work is
mine.
When children (or teenagers, or adults) make copies of CDs/DVDs/mp3s/etc.
they do it so they can share these copies along with their friends. They
don't see nothing wrong with it. Don't you think it may be an indication
that
there _isn't_ something wrong with it.
Are you approving of teachers telling the school children to "Do not share
your music with the other children. Copying copyrighted work is wrong!"?
According to RMS, the belief that sharing anything is wrong causes great
damages to society because it makes people more reluctant to sharing.
When copyright law was formulated there were no means to easily, quickly
and
efficiently copy content. But even when some of them were introduced
(Xerox
machines, Betamax/VHS tapes, Audio Cassettes, etc.) the general belief was
that it is OK to make copies of your artwork to your friends. (at least at
little or no cost).
