1. RTFM man mkswap
2. Did you initialize the swap partition while installing Slack 10.1
(the mkswap command)?
3. is the swap partition listed as such in your /etc/fstab?
4. is the swapon command activated sometime during boot?
5. is swapoff command NOT activated at any time?
6. RTFM man swapon
