Sempron is AMD's current cheap line, replacing the Duron line.
Main difference with Athlon is a much smaller cache. This might have a
quite low or a significant impact on speed, depending on the apps you
intend to run. For normal office use, I do not think you'll see the
difference.

No, you meant 3.5 inch :-)
5.25 inch died quite many years ago, and 3.5 inch are dying now. There
are very few uses for one today, the most common is probably for
upgrading your BIOS, and it's not considered important what make/model
you buy, unlike some years ago. To move data manually between machines,
most people use usb flash memory, not floppies.

These two questions are quite related: The question is how much do you
hate doing this (having a machine die, be some time without one, then go
buy a new one, probably spend quite some time on installing/configuring
it, etc.). If you hate this a lot, buying a stronger and more expensive
machine makes sense, because it increases the chances that it will last
longer. Not by much, probably - I guess the difference between a 1500
NIS machine and a 5000 NIS one is not more than a year or two of life.
