You are correct that not bouncing at all is not good. In fact we do relay
bounces except for customers who have no spam protection of their own.
Your suggestion to filter bounces is good.

BTW, Baruch Siach also configured our main server (sendmail) not to
relay out bounce messages from our clients' servers that relay out to
the world through us since these are about 99% spam bounces.
Wouldn't it be better to just do spam filtering on the bounces? I find
the habit of not sending bounces a dangerous one. People are quite used
to having email either received or a NACK sent. Doing neither is
dangerous, especially in a business environment.
Think of a scenario. You meet a potential client and hand him your
business card. He is quite impressed with your company, and sends an
email asking for a price quote. He does, however, mistype the email
address, which results in the email not actually being received. You
filter the bounce, so the potential also doesn't receive the bounce, and
does not think to check whether he mis-spelled the email.
Maybe you'll manage to salvage the client when he angrily calls to ask
why he didn't hear from you for a week. Maybe he never calls. I rather
send the bounce and not find out.
