If you are going to use kde 4.4 make sure to copy your resource files for example if you are using kaddressbook backup the file : ** *.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf*
After resent upgrade (from 4.3.4 to 4.4.3) there was a bug that did not display the contacts. I would recommend to copy also all related to kmobiletools since in resent version it dosn't exist anymore.
