Signal 7 is a Bus Error, which isn't much help to you. It's a pretty
catastrophic failure, whatever, probably because something has gone horribly
wrong in one of the installation programs.
which might indicate a hardware error.
the culprit may be bad RAM chip, less memory, cache fault, dma controller...ie
hardware fault.
Try turning off the CPU-cache in the BIOS and see if the problem goes away. Also
try swapping memory around in the motherboard slots to see if it is either slot
or memory related.
also visit RH installation support site.
www.redhat.com
try this also:
Copy the program hdparm from a working linux system / some ftp site to a
floppy. When the install program asks you to choose packages etc, go to the
second console using <Alt>F2 and mount your floppy. Run: hdparm -d0 /dev/hda
Then go back to installation <Alt>F1 and continue.
If it still doesn't work, you may have one of the more common problems such as
bad memory etc.
If this approach solves the installation problem, the first thing you want to
do after installation is to login as root and change /etc/rc.d/rc.sysconfig to
disable
dma at the earliest possible point.
