I have a Celeron 466MHz with a Vintron i810 chipset based
Motherboard, 128Mb RAM, 8.3Gb HDD. Linux version is RH6.1 from
the PCQ Nov 99 CD. Everything is fine, including X for which I
got the server and a module from suppport.intel.com. The trouble
is that I am unable to print. The printer is a Panasonic KXP
1150. I think the printer doesn't matter in this case because
linux is not talking to the parallel port at all.
While booting, the lpd starts fine but then there are two
messages in /var/log/messages:
modprobe: can't locate module parport_lowlevel
modprobe: can't locate module parport_lowlevel
Yes, they appear twice.
I tried giving "linux lp=0x378,7" (I got this port and irq from
windows) at the boot prompt but then I get the following line in
the /var/log/messages in addition to the two above:
kernel: lp: driver loaded but no devices found
Where can I find some documentation about the parport device?
If someone faced and got around this one, please let me know
how.
Kind regards
Govind
