Hi. It looks like u've got some experience with
Beowulf clusters. We at ILUG-HYD are planning to build
one ASAP, preferrably at IIIT-HYD, with the guidance
of Prof. Sangal, and Mr. Prasad. I've gone thru the
docs some time ago. But i didn't find any places of
how EXACTLY to write an APP, which uses MPI. can u
give me some pointer in that direction? And this
question was put at Bang!inux also, but is the load
balancing done automatically if the resources/config
aren't the same on every system in the cluster. Like
can i put in some 486s and some K6-IIs, and maybe some
others like some PIIIs or something like that, and
still will the load of the application be distributed
evenly? Is there any program which emulates a SMP
environment, when a cluster is being used? I know the
memory sharing is not possible when the systems are
seperated, but is there any way that multi-threaded
progs, will run UNMODIFIED on clusters, making
adequate use of all the systems. And what level of
Ethernet is reuquired? 10mbps is fine, or do we have
to look for higher speeds. And is network boot along
with NFS ESSENTIAL for a cluster? or can i just take
individual systems, and put them all into some cluster
mode after booting? I know they're a lot of questions.
I've been saving them for a loooooong time, since i
dont have anybody to ask here. Sorry for that...

Nikhil.
ILUG-HYD.
