Dude, you need to trace the error[s] and fix them ; You
probably broke some kind of a dependency somewhere? *shrug*
The best way to check for this is to see the error logs that
StarOffice gives you, when you try to start it.
Open an xterm and cd to soffice or whichever directory.
$ soffice >> starerrors.log
I'm not too sure if you start it by just "soffice" or
"./soffice" but the drift is, get the bunch of errors that its
complaining about.
You can also try $ soffice 2>foo.log
Then read the logs and try and figure out whats going
wrong... and if you can't , post 'em to LIH :)

Usually, re-installing *just* that "troublesome" package
doesn't help, is what I've found out... I discovered that I couldn't
telnet into my box after I did a version upgrade of debian... and I
re-installed telnetd ... and tried all sorts of things, and after a
good 30 minutes, I discovered that /usr/sbin/in.telnetd was not in the
same line as the other stuff in /etc/inetd.conf :(
Well.. :p
G'luck with your StarOffice. Also, try giving Abiword a
shot... I liked it and it doubles up as a decent Office software.
Ravi.
