but xfree86 4.0 is supposed to have mesa inbuilt ( 3.3 i thought ? ) they
specifically state that you don't have to install mesa separately. Secondly
there isn't a proper hardware renderer out yet ...
does mesa really do any hardware rendering on tnt2 ? I know for sure that
there is no agp/dma support for the tnt2.
3dfx has way better linux support any day , but then what's the fun . I
read somewhere that the riva stuff is hw acceled only in 15 or 16 fps mode
so i even tried that...didn't help.I'm sure my settings are screwed up ,
but my questions are what components do i need. glx is handled by xfree 4.0
i presume. i haven't checked but i suspect they also provide libgl.so
do i need a different libgl.so ?
By the way I was running quake at 15and 16 bpp at 320x200 ( which was the
only mode hence no probs of virtual desktop size). even then I get 1fps. so
YES i'm sure that its s/w rendering i sure i screwed up but i'm not sure
how and i'm not sure what i should do to fix it. i don't want to uninstall
xfree4.0 .
but im not sure if i ought to replace xfree4.0 mesa with standard mesa
