Hi. I wrote some stuff a few days ago for helping out ppl. trying to setup OpenGL on Linux (and run Q3A ;-)! It went down the rabbit hole, so i'm trying to write a better one now... here goes. someone had asked if V3banshee will work in Linux. There is *no* card called V3banshee. There're 2 different cards Voodoo3 and Banshee *both* from 3dfx. The only thing that's common between them is that they *both* integrate 2D and 3D chips on a single card, unlike previous cards (i.e. the V1, and the V2, and the Rush), which were *only* 3D. U can get away (at least on Linux) by using the same drivers for *both* of them. For linux drivers for u're 3dfx cards, please goto http://linux.3dfx.com The website is well documented, but if u still face any probs. u can either post u're question on the 3dfx.glide.linux newsgroup, or ask me. Now, going to the Matrox G-series. These use the patched version of Mesa from utah-glx. U can either grab the patches and compile the drivers yourselves, or for the less adventurous, check out http://www.matroxusers.com/Driver/Linux.html for getting either the sources or the readymade RPMs for RH... For the TNT* users, its not as easy a ride as for the other cards. The drivers are at an awful state. The only choice u have is to get them from utah-glx http://utah-glx.sourceforge.net Apply the patches, and compile u're own drivers. Maybe sometime when i have time, i'll build some compiled drivers (RPM, tgz, deb, etc...), and put them up somewhere... I hope this helps most of the people who wanna get up and running with OpenGL on Linux, and fire off with Q3A. IF u're interested in programming on OpenGL, its a different issue all t'gether.. ;-) Nikhil. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send online invitations with Yahoo!
