As I said b4, RH 6.1's kernel has already compiled into it. Maybe
someone using RedHat could confirm it. Still if you want to compile
the kernel, then there is an option for APM and Power Off on Shutdown.

Thanks :-) I dunno about any X-Interface, but last time I think
L.V.Gandhi was using kvoice in combination with it or something like
that. I dunno whether he was successful or not. Maybe you can ask LVG
how he did it then.
