Very Strange. Are you sure it is kdm and not xdm ? This time after
doing a purge , do a sync and remove the kdm deb if it on the disk ( I
know I am being a bit paranoid here ) Anyway, since you say kdm is
starting, maybe you can send a snipped posting of 'ps aux' with a grep
fork kdm.  and a 'which kdm'
