Fianlly killed kdm:). Tried a bull headed way to end the pain...first
manually removed everything, then installed kdm and removed it with
dpkg. This time it worked, but yes, probably should have collected
the logs to find out where the thing went wrong. AFAICT, there were
no broken links...
