works like a charm for my vsnl account

/usr/sbin/pppd connect 'chat -v "" ATDT4317000 CONNECT "" sername:
xxxxx@bomX assword: xxxxxxx "" ppp' /dev/ttyS1 115200 debug crtscts modem
defaultroute
just give ur username and passwd and tel no at appropriate place
