Hi,

replacing the drive worked !!! Thanks a ton for the suggestion. The reason
I never thought it was a h/w problem, the drive worked perfectly under
win98, winnt. i could read / write / format perfectly. from linux i could
only read. if i ever tried to write the disk became useless, even win98 or
nt could not format it.
for some reason changing the drive has solved the problem completely.
thanks once again.

Thanks 'n Regards,

Change the floppy drive (preferably with a new good one) and see if
floppies still get damaged. Check if floppies can be read and written to
repeatedly under Win98. It's very likely a hardware problem. (if it is,
don't try to repair the floppy drive, get a new one)
