    Thanks.. I did that and made the changes to the mtab and fstab files (I
had wrongly mounted my IDE CDROM  drive , so I deleted that line in both the
files )....but the boot-up problem persists.. i.e, the system hangs after
the 'Remounting file system in read-write mode      [OK]'  message during
start-up ... I  need some more help on this .
