Thanks for all the responses.
I more or less made up my mind about the hardware: Intel SR440BX or
something mobo, onboard RIVA TNT and some SoundBlaster type sound
card, 20G IBM disk (which Vipul suggests runs much faster than
equivalent Seagate ones), 8x or 10x DVD, Phillips or LG monitor
(depending on which gives decent 1280x1024x32 without flicker), 128MB,
etc.
Now Amit Kalra (who's making the system for me) is going around
hunting for the mobo, which apparently is completely out of stock
everywhere. It seems that prices are expected to go down, so everyone
has cleared their old stocks.
What's this problem with 17G/20G disks not being completely recognised
by Intel mobo's? Anyone know a solution?
