IBM is better in IBM/Seagate/Quantum..better seek times, but u
have to rake out more from ur pockets for it..Seagate barracudas are
relatively cheap but slow, my own quantum 6gb is so so

If ur priority is compiling huge code and tarballs to suit ur
taste, faster disks would be an asset....why don't u go in for a SCSI
rather than a IDE?? Then there will be no probs with disk size, et
al...and of course, speeds will be great....no amount of hdparming
can raise any IDE to the level of a SCSI.
