Hi all,
I am new to linux and have a few questions to ask. I have a AMD K6-2 450
Mhz, 64 MB RAM with SiS 530 8MB shared AGP Card,and an 8.4 GB HDD and Suse 6.3
installed on 2.4 GB linux native and 128 MB swap.
1) Firstly, I installed StarOffice 5.1 in Suse 6.3 having logged as root. Now,
I find that that directory, I installed, ie /root/Office51 is restricted to
root and doesn't allow other users to use it. There is also another StarOffice
directory in /opt/Office51,(I installed Office 5.1 from this directory). Now
how do I enable StarOffice to be used by all users. Also which of the above
two directories can I delete. (Each directory is 148 MB).
2) I have a OPL-Sax3 sound card and how do I install it in Suse. I tried with
Yast, but couldn't get anywhere.
3) Can I install files from the PCQ RHL 6.1 CD in Suse 6.3. I tried to install
VMWare from the RHL 6.1 CD, but it says, wrong kernel distribution
4) I downloaded PcTel modem drivers for Linux. Can anyone help me in
installing them on my system?
5) Last question, When I installed RHL 6.1 from PCQ CD, I remember the
installation took more than an hour for around 1GB of files, but the same with
Suse 6.3 took less than 30 minutes. And infact during installation of Suse, it
says, taking 5 minutes is not uncommon on HDD's more than 4GB. What does it
mean? And why so much difference in time for installing between the two
distributions?
