XF4 has full 2D support. even 3.3.5 has, for that matter. we're talking 3D
here. if u dont have good support for 3D, which is where most of the cost
of the card goes, IMHO, the investment is a waste. I rather buy a card, which
has good drivers, and also which are OSS. Look at 3dfx. They had a guy, Daryll
Strauss, working on the glide port to Linux, parallely, which was made OSS.
The latest drivers that NVIDIA boasts of uses their own mechanism to hook into
the kernel. It's binary only, and just the source which uses the underlying
NVIDIA kernel is OSS. It's something like the OSS/Linux drivers, which use
a module, which forms an interface between the kernel and the _real_ sound
drivers, to keep up with different kernel versions. btw, the OSS/Linux drivers
for YMF724 are bogus. I tried them out and i get DMA trouble. It's not OSS, so
I cant even fix 'em myself. :=\
