Hi,
No,as soon as the modem gets connected,i get all the just
characters on the screen, and i click continue....so there is no prompt at
all....The DNS entries in /etc/resolv.conf are entered correctly. The phone
lines are not bad because i can use the same modem and line to dial to our
company server, but the trouble is we don't have enough lines,so it's always
busy(here i have a user name and password).
Well answer to the last question......i also still
pay for internet,i dont think any ISP provider can afford to give internet
connection for free. This is only a service provided by the local telcom
here ....Q-tel in Qatar .....

Are you supposed to type 'ppp' at some prompt?
Also do you have the correct DNS entries in /etc/reolv.conf ?
Else it may be a bad phone line.
(Where are you from and what is the number? I still pay for internet.)
