It's hard to tell - the only way to check is by selective replacement of
components:
- Try the cable on a different network
- Try a different machine with the same hub
- Try a different network card
- Try a different OS with the problematic machine (I'd normally use WinXX in
the other partition. You could also try a single floppy version of *BSD)
After you've done all that, you'll know the faulty component in your system.
