Hmmm...this is an expression I'm seeing for the first time:)

RAID makes use of multiple HDDs and gives a functionality of storing
data in partitions which can be distributed across drives(something
akin to that). That way, if one of your drives crashes, then the
system is not hit as badly as it should be:)It is absolutely
essential for servers that run 24x7 as well as database backends

'Course you can, but then do you have many disks?? Since you were
talking of ReiserFS a few days back, then it should suffice for a
workstation.

There is a Multi-Disk Howto that deals with RAID, as well as another
to install it for a RH system. And yes, Raju will soon contribute
one:)

Well, since you have email, what stops you from accessing the net via
email?? I had to do the same at one time because the net speed at my
place was abysmal.

Now here's something for Raju..
1. Why have you installed RAID with Reiserfs?? Does ReiserFS support
RAID (which is _fast_!)When i last heard(and that was quite some time
back), the ReiserFS was not doing very well with the 2.3.xx
kernels..is the scene better now?
2. What about options like ext3 or for that matter, SGI's much
delayed XF3?
3. Since you've already got the system up, how much system resources
does sw RAID draw?
