Hi folks
Can people suggest some optimisations to speed up internet connections??
I have a dial-up account and connect via a USRobotics 33.6kbps modem.
Connection speeds are dumb to say the least. I have a rough estimate of
the speeds I achieve for different file types.
1. Compressed binaries - 3-4 kbps(if I am lucky, at times it is 5-5.5
kbps)
2. JPEG images - 2.5-3.5 kbps
3. Hypertext transfers - 6-10 kbps
Mind you, these speeds are possible when I use multi threaded clients,
wget(in Linux) though most times I revert to Windows to use things like
accelerators. If I use aptget, then speeds are at most 3kbps. I have not
done any tweaking to the stock config files. So if it is possible to
speed up connections by some modifiacations, please post.
Thanks
BTW, does anyone have copies of Potato or Woody(burned CDs). I am stuck
with Hamm(okay that was long time back). So if some "kind soul" can
contact, I'll plonk for it.
