Use mutt instead of pine if you want to stay logged in as root all the
time (bad habit, btw - only login as root when necessary).

Netscape.  Even PINE has an option - from the main menu, go to (S - Setup,
C - Config).  However, if you set your smtp server that way, you have to
be connected 24*7

http://linuxindia.virtualave.net has a good section on this.  Just set the
DS flag in /etc/sendmail.cf to your smtp server (leave the other things
alone as you are on a permanent connection at mahindrabt - i hope)
