If you want simultaneous sound output without using two sound cards,
try out esd (aka esound). Yes, the "Enlightened Sound Daemon". Then
you can run any number of processes (which have esd support of course)
which output sound, and have esd mix them for you.

XMMS has an esd output plugin. What else do you need? ;-)
