fdisk/mbr only replace mbr with PT. Download loadlin and one image file (eg:
zImage) then boot linux from DOS using
loadlin zImage root=/dev/hdax where hdax is your root partition.
Boot Linux, manually create /etc/lilo.conf (if not exists), then run lilo.
