Hello all,

I am having problems with establishing a ppp link to vsnl. I have sent the
relavant part of the /var/log/messages file, which shows the first and last
line having a problem.

The first line is
modprobe: can't locate module char-major-108
char-major-108 seems to be an alias for ppp_generic' and I have no idea what
it is.

Though the script says "Serial connection established", and an IP address
is assigned, netscape gives an error like "Unable to log on to server"
A 'ping something' says network unreachable.

The last line of the log is
modprobe: no dependency information for module: "/dev/ttyS1"
I have been successful in connecting to the net using minicom....as far as
the modem (/dev/ttyS1) is concerned.

(B.T.W. I dont know anything about networking, nor kernel and module stuff)

Can somebody please help me out ?

Thank you,

Kayomarz.

(Though the log file is long, I think only the first and last line have an
error. However, I have sent the entire file as I do not know
much...........anything could be wrong)
