The username should probably be just john - you have already specified pn2 as
your POP server above.

And probably this line should be merged with the line above, like:
user john with password "whatever" is * here
If you are having trouble, use fetchmailconf to configure fetchmail, and then
take a look at the .fetchmailrc file that is generated.
