init 5
Just check if it happens with other window managers. If it doesn't then
check the dependencies of all (particularly base) Gname packages. You
might try starting Gnome from failsafe mode terminal. This will show you
all error messages. If GDM is not working, go to 'init 3' and type gdm at
shell prompt. Also check .xsession-errors in home directory and all logs
in /var/log .
Almost all solutions to your problems are in /usr/doc . Read every bit of
it. A good way to start is by reading /usr/doc/ldp and /usr/doc/HOWTO
Before you start don't do a 'du -sh /usr/doc' (this might discourage you)
