Hi RBK,
U don't get the expexted results because, there are an indefinite number
of spaces between the group name and the file size and with space as your
delimiter - what is the 5th field???

To get over this U could use awk or use cut with the -c option

for eg cut -c 34,35,36,37,38,39,40 or cut -c34-40

will cut out the appropriate columns and U don't have to bother about
space etc being the delimiter...

HTH ... Narain.

Hello,

Could anybody solve this problem? I need to cut the 'SizeOfFile' field from
the output of ls -l. I don't know what the delimter is but I tried
ls -l | cut -f5 -d' '
for which I didn't get the expected result.
