In my box, the contents of .deb files can be seen in Midnight Commander. From
there I copy the CONTENTS directory to /tmp and "hand install" the package. The
rpm database does not get updated. I have also 'heard' of a utility called
rpm2deb or the like. Even Kpackager, if installed with correct libraries, will
work with both the formats.
