Hello:
This is a pointless thread. Ask any seasoned RedHat or Debian user if he
will attempt using debs on RedHat and vice-versa .
You can install RHL .rpm on Debian and .deb on RHL. But, there is no
guarantee that it will work. It all depends on criticality of the package -
you may get away with an install of Midnight Commander or Mutt, but try
installing Gnome or Enlightenment by hand, alien, rpm2deb, kpackager or
whatever and that will be that last time you ever do that. Even better, try
installing a system service package like courier-imap or openldap and watch
how things break.
And when u think of FHS/FSSTND, its just a mess out there.
Like Sthithaprajna said, it will be a lot easier just to say "Debs will not work
on RHL".
