[LIH] Big hard disk

hi all,
    I tried linux on big hard disk(20 GB hard disk).
The redhat cd detects free space of some 3GB.But when
i add a partition i get an error that,unable to create
partition,no free space.This error pops up even if i create
a partition of 1mb.
