There are different servers written for different card. For S3 Trio 3D,
XF86_SVGA will work. See to it that you have X 3.3.6 on your machine.

I believe you already have the correct server for your machine and
everything is fine there.. Run Xconfigurator properly for S3 Trio.. card
itself. Also search the archieves. Ther is some string you must add to
XF86Config file... telling the chipset number... in problem cases.
