Ok , do it the hard way if it's not autodetected ! 
In xf86config , select your card from the card database.As Rohit
pointed out if ur present X server, doesnt support the card, it's
advisable to move on to a higher one 3.3.6 or 4.0 for example.
IFAIK s3 cards are quite well supported with these versions.
