Hi Gurus,
I have developed an application in Linux with perl and some C++ routines for
IVRS.
I am planning to install these system where people do not have basic
knowledge of *nix and would like to have full proof system. Basically I am
trying to avoid hard disk failure.
So the strategy I have adopted is to have complete Linux with perl script
and some binary on a bootable CD and use ram as ramdisk to store /var
directory. The machine may not have hard disk. The ram disk will be of about
30 Mb (out of total 64 Mb) and swap also will be on ramdisk, or I may
disable the swap totally.
I am planning ext2 file system on CD-ROM with a kernel image and initrd
image. The kernel and initrd image will load a small file system on ramdisk
and then this will install file system of CD-ROM with read only and create a
/var (and /usr too for fast access) directory on Ram disk.
The system will be connected to LAN and will get some configuration files
from ftp server ( on other machine ). The linux system will be bare minimum
with perl, apache and, no TTY terminal are required. The machine will not
have monitor and keyboard also. I may put a LCD display on parallel port for
status/error display.
With this I hope I will have 100% crash proof system which can be only if
some one crashes with a sledge hammer ;-)
Now Am I On Right Track?
Any suggestions?
