Dear List Members
I tried to configure my box as a dialin server.
Going through the article by Atul.
The problem is when my friend dials in my modem gives the handshake
sound & then
after the handshake the modem disconnects.
What I tried to do is written below ->
I have mgetty and PPP installed.
I added
"V1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -s 115200 ttyS1"
in my /etc/inittab file.
As I have my modem in COM2.
Then I edited the file /etc/mgetty+sendfax/login.config.
And added the line
"/AutoPPP/ - - /etc/ppp/ppplogin"
Then created a file /etc/ppp/ppplogin.
And added
#!/bin/sh
mesg n
tty -echo
/usr/sbin/pppd silent auth -chap +pap login
to it
And
chmod +x /etc/ppp/ppplogin
Then I updated the file /etc/ppp/options with
-detach
modem
lock
crtscts
asyncmap 0
netmask 255.255.255.0
proxyarp
ms-dns 127.0.0.1 #I am a bit confused here is this line correct ??
How do I know the DNS server address in my m/c.
I have installed everything in the PCQ RH 6.2 CD.
Then I created another file /etc/ppp/options.ttyS1 and add the following
to it:
localhost.localdomain:127.0.0.2 #here also I am confused
How to find 127.0.0.2 is being used or not ??
will 128.0.0.1 do ?
Because I can ping 127.0.0.2 but not 128.0.0.1.
Then
# chmod +s /usr/sbin/pppd
Then in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets I added
* * "" 127.0.0.2
I also have "noauth" line added in the /etc/ppp/options is it causing
probs. or something else.
It will be great if all U GURUS help this little kid (in respect to all
U).
BTW what software one should use to access the Linux shell from Windows
after dialin.
and how can one copy files from a linux box to the windows m/c after
dialin.
TIA & Respects
