Remember that Linux is not for everyone (yet).  If they don't find it
useful and don't have the need to learn all the intricasies of Linux, you
might want to leave them to their WinDOS.

Almost all distributions come with a DOS software called FIPS.  FIPS allows
you to repartition your FAT partition without (even though the FIPS
documentation warns that it does not come with ANY warranty) loosing data.

Create a Win2000 boot / rescue floppy.  Copy over FIPS to this floppy. 
Read the FIPS documentation.
