hi there!!
i have a v.34/ASVD/Voice Fxx Modem at 33.6kpbs.I just installed linux
(redhat v6.1) and tried connecting to the internet. As a prerequisite i
logged in as root ran "modemtool" and configured(detected )modem at
/dev/ttys1 which was set as default modem.Next in X windows i ran the
"internet>dial up config" tool and created an account with all the Dns
setings etc.Next again in an terminal emulation window i ran the "rp3"
command and selected the just created account as listed interface and tried
to Connect.the modem gave the familer noise of dialtone but then disc..
aftre 5 seconds.this happened over n over again till i had to terminate the
application.(i ran debug and the error was>dialtone not present)

i remeber a similar prob in windows as well and later found out that"GVc
modems do not wait for dialtone to be detected and infact should just dial
"there is an opton for same in widnows dial up networking which goes as>wait
for dialtone before dailing/.I have disabled this and i was able to connect
in windows. But in linux i cant find a similar option by which i can disable
waiting for dialtone to dial and instaed dial instantly.I am sure thats the
prob.
anyone especially with GVc modems have an idea?
most of my pals us d-link which dosent have this prob
thnaks
saurabh
